On November 2nd, I went to Barcelona to visit my dear friend Fernanda Gomes and, taking advantage of this opportunity, I performed “I exchange your pain for a massage” for the second time.
This time, it was not as cold as in Berlin and, thanks to that, I chose to experience an outdoor place of passage: the courtyard of the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA).
There, amidst the cheerful and informal environment that brought together local residents, passersby, tourists, artists, and skaters, new questions emerged: what to receive in exchange, for the exchange?
This question came into life not only because of the recurring question concerning if the massage was free or not, but especially thanks to the contact with three beings that, in the end, felt the need to offer something of their own, something that belonged to them, something in retribution, whether that be another massage or a song played on a guitar.
Special thanks to Fernanda Gomes, for the pictures and support.
